The overall objective of this study is to improve HIV testing of children under five in rural Uganda. Unfortunately, many pregnant women do not receive HIV testing as part of routing antenatal care in rural Uganda, and deliver infants outside of formal healthcare facilities. Therefore, many infants and children never receive recommended HIV testing as part of formal antenatal and postpartum care. We propose that training traditional healers to deliver point-of-care HIV antigen testing for children between 18 month and 5 years of age can significantly improve uptake of HIV testing.
